Matt Czuchry was born in Manchester, New Hampshire but grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee. His mother, Sandra, is a stay-at-home mom, while his father, Andrew Czuchry, teaches at East Tennessee State University. With Ukrainian heritage from his father’s side, Matt has three brothers and a sister.
He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1995, where he won the Tennessee state prep tennis singles championship. Later, he attended the College of Charleston on a tennis scholarship, where he played as a ranked player in the NCAA and served as team captain.
