The Mastercard Foundation was created in the year 2006 by Mastercard international and the foundation operates independently under its board of directors guidance and direction. The foundation has a commitment which spans to around an amount of 4.4 billion US dollars approximately.
The Mastercard foundation is based in Toronto, Canada, and has an asset base there whose valuation goes beyond 7 billion dollars.
The foundation laid out its fresh and unique strategy in the month of March 2018. This strategy plan is for the year 2018-2030. This strategy builds on experience of the foundation in financial inclusion, training and education.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship is implemented by the Mastercard Foundation through the partnership of the foundation with non-governmental organizations and universities.
The Mastercard Foundation describes its scholarship programme as the largest scholarship and initiative of leadership in Africa, as it prepares diverse and talented young individuals with a giving-back commitment.
The scholarship programme offers mentoring skills, internship opportunities, career services, tutoring, and the development of leadership skills. Nearly 40,000 young transformative leaders have been supported since 2012 by the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.
The scholarship foundation has a global and Pan-African network which consists of over 40 universities and non-governmental organizations, even as it strengthens the ecosystem of higher education through the encouragement of innovation, accessibility, and inclusion in learning and teaching.
Eligibility and Requirements for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship
So, who is qualified to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship? In this section of this piece, we are going to be listing the requirements and eligibility criteria needed to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship. The following are the requirements;
- For undergraduate programme scholarship, you must be 29 years old or under at the time of application for this scholarship. For applicants aiming for a masters degree, the candidates must be 35 years old or under at the time of application.
- Candidates must meet up with the eligibility criteria of the targeted university of the candidate. This is because each of the universities involved in the programme has its own eligibility criteria.
